HOW TO HAVE VERY SHINY HAIR

CULTURED FLOWER RINSES ARE PROBIOTICS FOR HAIR AND SKIN

Fermenting or culturing flowers create probiotic tinctures that extract the essence of the flower. This is red rose. Each different flower or herb is brewed for a different length of time.

Fermenting or culturing flowers create probiotic tinctures that extract the essence of the flower. This is red rose. Each different flower or herb is brewed for a different length of time.

CULTURED LAVENDERROSE and HIBISCUS HAIR RINSES are made by fermenting flowers. So conditioning that no gooey cream conditioners are needed that flatten, dull and coat hair.

Fermenting or culturing creates naturally occurring live enzymes and probiotics that restore glossy, healthy hair that grows thick and long easily. Easily restoring the natural micriobiome of the hair and scalp for better hair and hair growth. Because they are actually a probiotic tincture, CULTURED LAVENDERROSE and HIBISCUS HAIR RINSES heal scalp conditions, moisturize hair, stimulate hair growth and leave hair especially shiny.

Amazing for hair that has been colored, bleached or chemically processed. Keeps white or gray hair brilliantly shiny and light. A perfect conditioner for fine hair as it doesn't weigh hair down. Smoothes Frizz and damage. Shines curly hair and gets the coatings off found in so many curly hair products that dull and coat hair. Gets tangles out.

CULTURED FLOWER RINSES  detox hair and get the coatings off from hair product chemicals and hard water minerals.

Modern hair is coated. Coated with silicones, plastics, processed proteins from hair products. Even from "organic" heath food store products. Hard water minerals coat hair.  Coated hair doesn't shine much, gets dry and frizzy, resists hair color and breaks off easily.

CULTURED FLOWER RINSES ARE GENTLE CLEANSERS

The perfect hot weather rinse for hair and skin. Perfect for wintertime to restore moisture and and soothe scalp.

If hair needs more conditioning HEALING HAIR OIL or CURL POMADE are perfect for the ends of hair or anywhere hair needs extra moisture.

Sometimes in the beginning hair will go thru a transitional period as coatings and hard water minerals start to dissolve. Using CULTURED  FLOWER RINSES more frequently and in between shampoos will help detox hair faster. Fermented rinses and tonics will always have some brownish sediment on the bottom. These are living formulas.

OVERWHELMED, ANXIOUS, WAKING AT NIGHT, DARK PATCHES ON SKIN, FRAGILE HAIR?

Common signs of adrenal fatigue.

All hair no matter the texture, thick or fine - should be healthy, full and strong - not breaking at the bottom or see thru.

All hair no matter the texture, thick or fine - should be healthy, full and strong - not breaking at the bottom or see thru.

One of the more visible signs of adrenal fatigue is fragile hair that breaks off and won't grow long.. or feels as if it is thinning.

FOOD AS HEALING Nutrition Therapy balances adrenals with food. And delicious food. Hormonal imbalances are many times badly diagnosed and not well treated by mainstream medicine. Nourishing the endocrine systems with food is essential to healing.

Food creates mood and energy. The microbes in our gut digest what we eat and create neurotransmitters. The gut and the brain are in constant communication via the gut-brain axis.

HOT FLASHES, PMS, LOW SEX DRIVE, NEEDING CAFFEINE, TIRED UPON WAKING, SENSITIVE TO LIGHT more signs of Adrenal dysfunction.

If you begin the day with a carbohydrate breakfast like oatmeal or with a cup or two of coffee, blood sugar will be high all day. Which then triggers stress hormones - cortisol and adrenaline. Running on these hormones for energy would feel stressful and overwhelmed all day long.

You never know how good you can feel until you feel it.

IS YOUR SHAMPOO AFFECTING YOUR HORMONES?

ARE EVERYDAY PRODUCTS AFFECTING YOUR HEALTH?

Are the ingredients easily recognizable or are they an ever expanding list of hard to decipher language?

Chemicals in personal care products are absorbed thru skin and lungs.
Xenoestrogens are synthetic estrogens used in personal care products and plastics  that most of us are using everyday. Shampoos, conditioners, styling products, lotions, cleansers, shaving creams, deodorants all contain many synthetics compounds. Many that affect our biochemistry, metabolism and hormone balance. Even organic which can actually be  mixtures of natural ingredients AND chemicals? There is little regulation on personal care products.

Puberty, fertility cycles, menopause, aging for both men and women should be easy, natural transitions. Are we making these transitions more difficult by products we are using everyday?

Products that are used on hair go all over skin in the shower. Skin and lungs absorb chemicals in seconds. This is especially important with hormone imbalances like difficult puberty, pms, difficult menopause, thyroid/adrenal issues, libido, fertility issues, autoimmunity or cancer.

What about the plastic bottle?

How long has the product been sitting in plastic or aluminum on a store shelf? Can you see what the ingredients look like? Chemicals and dyes used to make plastic containers absorb easily into liquids and creams as does aluminum And what about the environment? WHAT ARE THE CHEMICALS IN PERSONAL CARE PRODUCTS DOING TO OUR LAND, WATERWAYS AND OCEANS?

SO IMPORTANT NOT TO BUY MORE PLASTIC

SO IMPORTANT NOT TO BUY MORE PLASTIC PACKAGING. PLASTIC CONTINUES TO BREAK DOWN INTO SMALLER AND SMALLER PARTICLES AND REALLY NEVER GOES AWAY. EVEN IF YOU RECYCLE.

Plastic is found in everything now. Our bodies, our children’s bodies, animals, land, waterways, our drinking water.
EVERY PERSON MAKES A DIFFERENCE. THINK ABOUT THE PACKAGING YOU ARE BUYING

so many bathrooms look like this when you open up the cabinets. Too much plastic and too many products!

so many bathrooms look like this when you open up the cabinets. Too much plastic and too many products!

Xenoestrogens from plastics are found everywhere especially in our bodies. There is almost no regulation on packaging plastics and chemicals for non food products.
Plastics are estrogen(ic) not to mention the many other toxins found in packaging containers. So much is absorbed thru the skin.
Storing cosmetics, personal care products and food in plastic increases estrogen/toxin levels in the body.
Plastic is porous so it's not really a very good container to protect any natural substance.
Ingredients in personal care products react and dissolve some of the porous plastics that they are stored in.

Humans have been using glass forever.

A tried and true container.
Glass is the perfect material to store all kinds of things and you can use glass over and over again. Glass preserves ingredients better.
I love the way things look and feel in glass. You can see what the product actually looks like and how fresh it is.

So reuse these great glass or bring them back to the salon..
To drop off bottles/jars.
I am usually at the salon Tuesday through Saturday after noon. If I am not there leave bottles in a bag and hang it on the doorknob. Leave a note to get bottle refund.

ARE YOU WASHING YOUR HAIR WITH DETERGENTS?

WHY IS MY HAIR SO DRY?

Raw Honey Soap Shampoo, Coconut Soap Shampoo, Black Soap Shampoo

Raw Honey Soap Shampoo, Coconut Soap Shampoo, Black Soap Shampoo

REAL SOAP

From the beginning of time humans have been using real soap. All cultures make soap. Soap is simple stuff, made from plant oils or animal fats mixed with lye. Lye is made from wood ash. That's it. High quality soaps cleanse the hair and skin without stripping natural oils. Real soap is naturally protective.

There is absolutely no question that quality of hair is monumentally better for all of us using real soap shampoos. Real soap shampoos stimulate natural metabolism for faster, thicker hair growth, shinier hair, smooth moisturized hair, more colorful hair and healthy scalps. Most dandruff is a reaction to detergent chemicals. Even hair dyes work so much better on hair that isn’t coated or dry from detergents. Products that dry out and coat hair and scalp interfere with healthy function and hair growth.

What is the difference between soap and detergent?

Detergent chemicals were developed in the 1930s from petroleum. Cheap to make. “Organic” shampoos are also made with detergents like cocoglucoside or decylglucoside. Detergents strip natural oils that create a need for conditioners and endless hair products.

Remember, any products that you use on your hair go all over your skin in the shower. If I use any detergent shampoos I get eczema and dry itchy scalp and skin.

of course there weren’t really any natural ingredients - just chemicals. Breck made some of the first Creme Rinses designed to coat the hair with more chemicals. Later thicker versions were called Conditioners.

FRANKINCENSE DETOX DEODORANT

HOW TO STAY SWEET SMELLING ALL DAY LONG

FRANKINCENSE DETOX DEODORANT

FRANKINCENSE DETOX DEODORANT

The MAGICAL HEALING POWERS of Frankincense Resin have been celebrated since the beginning of time.

My work with Frankincense as an Herbalist and Nutritionist, continues to leave me smitten and in awe of this fragrant, healing resin produced by ancient tree lines.

As all parts of the resin have astonishing properties,  it is the boswellia acid in biblical  Frankincense that is being studied extensively for the profound effect on all aspects of health and wellbeing. Especially balancing hormones and cancer. The medical literature is filled with one impressive study after another.

Boswellia acid is not found in the Essential Oil - only in the resin and only in certain resin strains. This formula uses every aspect of this amazing substance. Frankincense resin infused castor and olive oils. Then more finely powdered resin added to this formula AND Frankincense Essential Oil.

Boswellia Sacra resin Somalia

An EASY way to detox and balance the lymph and endocrine systems everyday.

And we all get a little smelly sometimes.

Underarms are a very important detox area for the lymph that affects hormone balance. It is important that no chemicals are ever used under the arms, which is packed with lymph nodes and sweat glands. Cosmetic and deodorant chemicals are regularly found in breast/lymph cancer tumors. Sweating is detoxification. Synthetic chemicals found in conventional and many "natural" deodorants block sweat and skin function, hurting the ability of the body to cleanse itself.

FRANKINCENSE DETOX DEODORANT neutralizes odor and helps the lymph by drawing out toxins so the body works as it was designed to...

IS YOUR SHAMPOO MAKING YOU FAT?

ARE EVERYDAY PRODUCTS AFFECTING YOUR HORMONES AND METABOLISM?

Xeno estrogens are everywhere. These are synthetic estrogens used in products and plastics  that most of us use everyday. Chemicals in personal care products are absorbed thru skin and lungs. It is no wonder that estrogen driven illnesses are epidemic.

Shampoos, conditioners, lotions, cleansers, shaving creams, deodorants are important parts of our everyday experience. Anything we use everyday is having an impact on our health and beauty.

Is your shampoo a detergent? Is it made from petroleum or synthetic chemicals? Or is it real soap? What actually are ALL the ingredients?  Or maybe you think its organic but its actually  mixtures of natural ingredients called "organic" AND chemicals?  Products that are used on your hair go all over your skin when you wash hair in the shower. Skin and lungs absorb chemicals in seconds. This is especially important if you have hormone imbalances like PMS, difficult menopause, thyroid, adrenal issues, fertility issues, autoimmunity or cancer.

What about the plastic bottle?

How long has the product been sitting in plastic on a store shelf? Can you even see what the ingredients look like? If you cannot see the ingredients in the bottle it is difficult to see if formulas are still good and healthy.  And chemicals and dyes used to make plastic containers absorb easily into liquids and creams.

A simple way of avoiding these toxins is to use glass and buy products that are packaged in glass.

Artisan makers that care about their formulations will always use a natural container - glass being by far the favorite.

RAW HONEY SOAP SHAMPOO in glass bottles

RAW HONEY SOAP SHAMPOO in glass bottles

Humans have been using glass for thousands of years. Glass is the most amazing material. Beautiful to look at and perfect for storing so many things. Glass doesn't change the ingredients within. I notice products retain their natural fragrance and last longer in glass.

Does glass break? Maybe, but when you get used to using glass - it become effortless and easy. And such a pleasure to use.

IMG_7676.jpg

I also love using wooden boxes as containers. Lined with beeswax. Beeswax has naturally occurring anti bacterial/anti fungal properties, adding another layer of protection and healing for products like RAW HONEY BALM. And beeswax smells so good. Wooden boxes keep ingredients the same temperature as the air around it - perfect after bathing.

DRY HAIR & SKIN? EAT MORE BUTTER

 WHO DOESN'T LIKE BUTTER?

Butter from cows grazing on pasture is always yellow.

Butter from cows grazing on pasture is always yellow.

During winter times we all crave more fats. Fats keep us warmer and provide nutrients needed for cold weather and days with less sunlight. In nutrition therapy, listening to these cravings is what keeps us healthy.

Dry hair and skin can change overnight when we eat more fats.

BUTTER

Humans have been eating butter for thousands of years. There are even cultures that place butter on their altars for worship. Paradise is the land of milk and honey. Look to our ancestors for the fats that they used in their kitchens before processed foods. Eat local.

Butter from cows, sheep and goats living outside, grazing on pasture, is a superfood. Fat from milk, the cream, becomes both butter and ghee. When butter/cream is raw, not pasteurized, it has naturally occurring probiotics and live enzymes. When cream ferments or cultures, it becomes sour cream with even more probiotics and enzymes. Most of us will find cream, butter and ghee very easy to digest and most delicious.

e48a7f7d11ea4d1d83637ca8f10e85f2--ghee-butter-bulletproof-coffee.jpg

Fats heal the gut, moisturize hair and skin, feed and sharpen the brain, calm sugar cravings, optimize fertility, calm children, stabilizes blood sugar and gives us energy... Fats make food satisfying and delicious. If hair and skin is dry it is not about drinking more water. It is in the ability of the body to hold water in the cells and how well the cells are nourished with fats and nutrients. You can feel a difference in hair and skin within hours by eating more fat.

IMPORTANT If you are on any pharmaceutical medication always consult with your doctor as food can be very powerful.

If you have been eating a low fat diet, start very slowly adding more fats. The ability to break down and absorb fat depends on how well your digestion, gall bladder and liver are working. Always work with a functional medicine physician/ practitioner.

As with all new foods start with small amounts and see how you feel. Die off reactions (Herxheimer reaction) can happen with a change in diet or the introduction of new ingredients. Allow the body time to detox and adjust. Work with a functional physician/ practitioner. Go slow.

HOT BUTTERED Chocolate

LEG CRAMPS?   NOT ABLE TO RELAX?

24852493_1482344028488089_6155213474335493431_n.jpg

When I ask nutrition clients which foods they crave, by far chocolate is the one I hear the most.

Cocoa, Cacao, luscious Chocolate.

Craving chocolate is a sign of magnesium deficiency.

Cacoa has lots of magnesium which is one reason we crave chocolate. This particular combination of superfoods in Hot Buttered Chocolate provide a synergistic blend of nutrients perfect to soothe and nourish.  Magnesium relaxes muscles and thoughts. Fat from grass fed butter/cream feeds the brain and nervous system. Maple Syrup is packed with minerals especially iron and manganese . Gelatin heals the gut and provides protein. The deliciousness of chocolate makes us very happy. Delicious and happy is listening to our body.

Hot Buttered Chocolate is a soothing hot drink for cold mornings. Children and adults alike love hot chocolate. In many traditional cultures, cacoa is what everyone drinks in the morning.  Adults will find cacoa as satisfying as coffee, especially when its not sweet.

So nourishing and fun to have lots of good chocolate rather than taking magnesium/mineral supplements.

20130513-213036 (1).jpg

2 heaping teaspoons raw cacoa powdered (organic)

 2 teaspoons grass-fed  gelatin

1 tablespoon grass-fed cream

1 tsp - 1 tablespoon maple syrup (organic, dark)

1 teaspoon yellow grass-fed butter

pinch himalayan pink salt to taste

Bring 8 oz real spring water to a boil. Turn heat down to simmer. Add raw cacoa and gelatin. Whisk to combine. Add cream and maple syrup. Warm to desired taste. Whisk. Melt butter on the top. Pinch of salt. YUM

as with all ingredients adjust amounts to taste.. especially sweetness and fat. Add more cream if it tastes good.  Let what tastes good determine what your body needs. The combinations of fats and simple sugars will  balance blood sugar, so make it as sweet as tastes good.

IMPORTANT If you are on any pharmaceutical medication always check with your doctor as these foods can be very powerful. Chocolate can exacerbate any viral infections such as herpes, shingles,  EBV, etc. Always check with your physician.

As with all new foods start with small amounts and see how you feel. Die off reactions (Herxheimer reaction) can happen with a change in diet or the introduction of new ingredients. Allow the body time to detox and adjust. Work with a functional physician/ practitioner. Go slow.

TURMERIC BUTTER TEA

FOOD AS HEALING/ NUTRITION THERAPY

24862330_1479947925394366_7175638617776412461_n.jpg

There is a reason we crave warm, fragrant drinks during winter times.

Turmeric Butter Tea is the perfect sweet and satisfying hot drink for the mornings. Many of us don't feel like having a meal in the early part of the morning, so this drink is perfect.  Supplies fats, protein and simple sugars, making the ingredients, especially turmeric, more bioavailable. Warms the body. Great for anyone with adrenal, thyroid imbalances. Try this drink for anxiety. Or in the evenings to help with sleep. For any malady caused by inflammation, even helps pain.

These superfood ingredients combined, are astonishingly healing. Detoxing the liver while balancing many different body systems. Highly anti-inflammatory. Great for blood sugar balance and metabolism. Great for the brain. For the joints. Healing to the gut and digestion. These spices are being  studied extensively for dementia, diabetes and cancer.

Maple syrup is an amazing superfood, abundant in minerals. Just because it is sweet, does not mean it isn't packed with nutrition. The combination of fats from cream and butter with a simple sugars (maple syrup) will balance blood sugar levels and supply glucose to the adrenals and liver. Always adjust the amount of maple syrup so that tastes it delicious. Delicious is listening to our bodies.

It is so much easier to get superfood spices in foods as part of our daily fare rather than handfuls of supplements. Traditional cultures have always known the healing value and beauty of red, yellow and brown spices. Delicious food heals and keeps us healthy.

24312951_1481664021889423_1639141134360265194_n.jpg

1 teaspoon turmeric

1 teaspoon ceylon (true) cinnamon

1 teaspoon ginger

1/2 teaspoon clove

1/8 teaspoon black pepper

2 teaspoon grass fed gelatin powder

1 tablespoon grass fed cream

1 teaspoon grass fed butter

1 tsp - 1 tablespoon maple syrup (dark, organic)

Use dried ground organic spices. Bring 8 oz real spring water to a boil in a saucepan. Turn down heat to simmer. Add spices and gelatin. Use a whisk to combine. Let simmer for a few minutes, add cream. Warm to individual taste. Whisk. Add maple syrup to taste. Add butter so that it melts on the top.

No need to strain. Spices will settle on the bottom so that you can add more hot water and cream to have another cup.

Using turmeric as a base, try variations of cardamom, anise, coriander, vanilla, fennel, mace, nutmeg. Turmeric rounds out the flavor of any spice.

IMPORTANT If you are on any pharmaceutical medication always check with your doctor as these spices are very powerful.

As with all new foods start with small amounts and see how you feel. Die off reactions (Herxheimer reaction) can happen with a change in diet or the introduction of new ingredients. Allow the body time to detox and adjust. Work with a functional physician/ practitioner. Go slow.

ARE CONDITIONERS ACTUALLY MAKING HAIR DRY AND THINNER?

Cream conditioners are emulsified oil and water. Since oil and water don't naturally mix, the chemicals needed create a product that coat hair and scalp with chemicals - plastics, silicones and processed proteins. Even "organic" cream conditioners. If hair resists haircolor, it is coated.

Conditioners interfere with healthy hair growth and function.

So if you think you NEED a conditioner, actually you really don't need one!

First, stop using detergent shampoos (even "organic" decyl glucoside/coco glucoside, cocomides).. REAL SOAP SHAMPOOS cleanse hair without disturbing the natural microbiome of hair and scalp for full, healthy hair all life long.

23472091_1458086897580469_5673132643872565555_n.jpg

Then start using CULTURED FLOWER RINSES that heal scalp and detox hair product chemicals and pollution...These cultured (naturally probiotic) hair rinses are amazing and you won't need a cream conditioner... Gets tangles out easily.. leaves hair very shiny and moisturized. And so healthy.

especially great for dry and brittle hair
